What is E-Prescribing?
Medication error rates in paediatric inpatients range from 0.45 to 6 per 100 orders. Most errors and potential adverse drug events occur at the prescribing stage(1). Electronic prescribing holds great promise for error reduction and improvements in paediatric patient safety.
Prescribing in children is a complex process and errors in this process have been known to cause significant harm. Electronic prescribing and other information technology strategies have the potential to reduce errors and improve safety in paediatric patients(1).
